BDSM is an umbrella term for consensual power exchange and sensation play. Start with conversation and trust before trying equipment or copying a scene from a video. This guide is for adults.
1. Talk before you play
Discuss what each person wants to explore, what is off limits, and what is uncertain. Agree on the activity, the setting, and how either person can pause or stop. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
2. Choose a clear stop signal
Pick a word or signal that means stop immediately. If speaking could be difficult, agree on a hand signal too. Check in throughout; silence is not consent.
3. Start simply
Choose a low intensity activity you can stop quickly. Read instructions for any gear, inspect it before use, and keep a way to release it close at hand. Avoid activities involving breathing restriction or anything you do not understand well enough to manage safely.
4. Plan aftercare
Talk about what each person may want afterward, such as water, quiet time, reassurance, or space. Check in again later and discuss what felt good or uncomfortable.
